Intelligent Comments
k, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to make any announcements about this. Most comments on here (all but 1) have been intelligent. I'm quite alright with critiquing as long as it's done intelligently. Please don't make comments like the person named 'wake up' did under 'Updating Your Personal Information'. At least read the article before you make a rebuttal. Wake Up's comment is akin to somebody watching the first 5 minutes of Fellowship of the Ring and saying, "Oh, the whole movie is about really little people who like to throw parties and see fireworks," or watching the first few minutes of Spiderman and saying, "Oh, it's about this nerdy guy who likes a girl but is too nervous to do anything about it and gets beat up a lot. I'm not even sure why it's called Spiderman."'

Hello again. I fail to see how my comment was somehow not intelligent? In that updating personal information thread, the thing you mentioned regarding Route Y itself was the email part of it. If you are complaining about having to update personal information, well that is somewhat unintelligent because it takes all of 30 seconds to verify it, and at most 2-3 mions if anything has changes. Also, why are you rushing to check your email a few mins before class? Perhaps you could have better planned ahead, or even better, what is your need to be connected to "a potential millions of friends" right now, when you could perhaps wait an hour (or after your class is out, and check it then? Sounds like you need to learn not to save things for the last minute.
I suppose you could regard this comment as "unintelligent as well", but can you please explain why? Thank you.
Sarcasm, my friend. Learn to understand sarcasm. And hyperbole (which could be a word of the day. Def: exaggeration).
I still doubt that you read the entire article because it was not about email. It was about how updating personal information took more than 2-3 "mions" because the system wasn't working, and how tech support did little to fix the problem at the time.
Okay Wake Up - #1 - you resorted to name calling and mockery, the resort of the stupid. #2 - You made a false assumption. #3 - the point (which you failed to notice which everyone ELSE did) was that the errors and updating information were the complaint, and also the fees. #4 - you told me to go get different email - in case you didn't notice, you WILL get the fee whether or not you use Route Y email. Congrats - if you're a BYU student you just paid $25.00 because of your stupidity. #5 - The errors stopped people from being able to update their info in 30 seconds or less. Everything you've said here has been absolutely moronic. Quit wasting all of our (everybody who has passed 3rd grade) time.
ok now that you have made your point clear (without all the fluff). you still fail to see the point of the university making it mandatory to update your information, and fail to see the reason for charging you fees. Am I correct in this assumption? I hope so because I read it straight from your post. I am actually glad they have made it mandatory. The short and simple reason is this. Lets think of a little scenario. There is a student named Tom who fails to update his personal information. Sometime down the road, the university needs to get in contact with him. They try letters, phone calls, email, whatever. Tom never does respond because he moved, got a new cell phone, and never checks his route y email. In this situation, the university is now forced to try to do whatever they can to get a hold of him, which does cost MONEY. Now multiply that by all the other "Tom's" out there. Think of the great (and mostly unnecessary) expense the university incurs because of this. This would then lead to a rise in tuition. Do you want to pay for that? I sure don't. So making people update their information is not really that bad if you consider the alternatives. Also, as far as having problems, you were in the minority. No matter what you do, most systems do have problems. And I don't think they were blowing smoke about having fixed the problem, they probably legitimately felt they had fixed the problem. Just be patient and try several different times a day, and things will work out.
In any case, thank you for running such a great site. Although, perhaps you could learn a bit of respect. I never once was name calling or whatever you said I was doing above.
I seem to have missed the current time frame for this thread, but I've just gotta share the feelings in my heart. Wake up needs to shut up. I think we all know the reasons why BYU asks us to update our personal information. There's a great post about the institution being our mother you might want to check out. What we are degrading here is them charging us a fee for not doing it. Sure we know why they do, but it's dumb to charge us money for not following policies we may not agree with. There's another great post about that. And in conclusion, the whole Route Y system sucks. Having had some experience with systems, yes, they try. That doesn't stop it from sucking.
